CHRISTMAS Day is the right time for all officers and men of the 175,000-strong police force to count their blessings and at the same time renew their commitment to serve the country with honor and dedication, Philippine National Police chief, Director General Oscar D. Albayalde said.
“On behalf of my wife, Cherrylyn and our children, I wish the men and women of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the entire nation a blessed and meaningful Christmas and a prosperous and peaceful New Year,” the country’s top cop said in his Christmas Message to the Filipino people.
“There is no better time than now to renew and strengthen our commitment to our mandate to serve and protect the Filipino nation and to offer our service and sacrifices for the greater glory of our Lord, Jesus Christ whose birth we joyfully observe. This Christmas, let us look back and reflect on the year that is about to end and give thanks to the Lord for the countless graces and blessings He has bestowed on us as the nation's servants and protectors,” Gen. Albayalde said.
Coming in the heels of the PNP’s success in keeping criminality at a record low apart from enforcing the Duterte government’s war on drugs with the preservation of human rights their primordial interest, the PNP chief said there is much to be done by a police force which should be grateful to the Lord Almighty, President Duterte and the entire country.
“Let us thank Him for allowing us the opportunity to serve our nation with dedication and courage, for lighting our way through the dark and dangerous roads in our journey of service, and for guiding and protecting us as we continue to battle the scourge of crime, illegal drugs and other forms of lawlessness in our country. Above all, let us thank Him for having surmounted the the tremendous challenges of 2018 and for helping us attain safer and more peaceful streets for our countrymen,” he said.
According to the PNP chief, “the greatest gift I have received as a police officer and pubiic servant is the opportunity and the honor to lead this organization of gallant men and women who serve and protect our nation with selfless dedication, loyalty and courage.
“And in the spirit of the season, I pay tribute to the service of every member of the PNP with gratitude and respect, and ask the Lord to shower us all with more blessings, to give us greater courage to face the challenges of the coming year, and to embrace us with His protective arm as we confront the dangers of police work.
“As we now prepare to welcome 2019, let us keep Jesus Christ in our hearts and let the virtues of faith, hope and love guide us in our lives and in our service to the nation. Let us all remain deeply committed to the pursuance of our mandate to serve and protect the Filipino people in the finest tradition of service, honor and justice, I wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous and Peaceful New Year!” he said.
