SASMUAN, Pampanga -- Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo belittled yesterday the supposed ouster move against Camarines Sur Rep. Rolando “Nonoy” Andaya Jr. as House Majority Leader.
“Well I don’t know how many congressmen shared that sentiment (oust Nonoy). As far as I can see, the majority still supports the incumbent,” Arroyo told reporters in a press conference here.
Arroyo invited yesterday members of the House media for a seafood picnic lunch in Batang 1, Sasmuan, Pampanga with local leaders and residents.
Arroyo said she will vote for Andaya who is doing an excellent job.
“I am only one vote, I’ll vote for Nonoy,” said Arroyo, adding she won’t stop any member from putting the issue to vote.
“I exercise democracy, I am open-minded,” said Arroyo.
“I think Nonoy can take care (of himself), I am not an interventionist person on political matters. I am selectively hands on,” Arroyo added.
Earlier, Andaya said he would be the first to vote for his ouster.
“I will be the first to vote that I be relieved as Majority Leader,” Andaya made the statement after Camarines Sur Rep. LRay Villafuerte called on the pro-Duterte majority coalition to oust Andaya as House Majority Leader over the delayed approval of the proposed 2019 P3.757-trillion national budget.
Andaya had underscored the need to scrutinize the national budget to address the alleged P75-billion insertions of Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno.
As Congress resumes session this Monday, Villafuerte sought the removal of Andaya saying the delayed approval of the 2019 national budget jeopardizes President Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte’s priority programs.
