SENATOR Sonny Angara said that a delay in the approval of the national budget will have a negative impact on the economy.
“Passing it on time (proposed 2020 budget), I think is the biggest goal this year,” said Angara, Senate finance committee chairman.
The senator said the delay in the approval of the 2019 budget resulted in limited economic growth of the country.
“Six months nag-reenacted budget tayo. Wala tayong bagong construction projects. Nakita natin nag-suffer yung paglaki ng ating ekonomiya,” the senator said.
The finance committee is targeting to pass the budget by December 31 this year so that government projects could start already in January of 2020.
“Importante by December 31, 2019 napasa na yung 2020 budget. Para pagpasok sa January 1, meron na tayong bagong budget at yung mga projects ng gobyerno ay ongoing na dapat,” he added.
On the other hand, Angara said debates or any debates on budget are normal to make sure that the General Appropriations Act will be compliant with the constitution.
