THE chairman of the House committee on dangerous drugs yesterday cleared ex-Customs commissioner Isidro Lapeña from any accountability on the alleged shabu smuggling as he insisted on detaining former Customs intelligence officer 1 Jimmy Guban in his panel’s custody.

During yesterday’s regular Ugnayan sa Batasan media forum, Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, who chairs the committee, said Lapeña has nothing to do with the shabu smuggling using magnetic lifters inside the Bureau of Customs (BoC) which could be worth by as much as P11 billion.

“Ako personally, again I will not speak in behalf of my committee, but this is just an opinion coming from me, wala akong nakikitang [may] kinalaman si Commissioner Lapeña d’yan sa pagpapalusot ng mga shipments o illegal na shipments o kargamentong ‘yan,” Barbers told reporters.
