“The fight against drugs is not yet over.”
This is what former Special Assistant to the President (SAP) and 2019 senatorial candidate Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go told officials of local government units (LGUs) Friday afternoon during the First National Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) Performance Awards Ceremony.
“You must maintain the high standards of dignity and process to keep your offices and communities drug-free,” Go stated to event attendees.
ADACs of 241 municipalities, cities, and provinces all over the Philippines were recognized in the ceremony held at the Manila Hotel.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año said the awards are for ADACs that “have excellently performed their duties and responsibilities in complementing the national government’s anti-illegal drug programs and activities.”
Año added that the awards are based on the results of the 2017 ADAC Performance Audit conducted by the DILG.
Reminding LGUs that the fight against dangerous drugs should continue, Bong Go commended their efforts, saying: “You are good role models because every day, you make sure that everyone in your LGU is drug-free. This kind of healthy practice leads the whole city, municipality, or province to follow you as their leaders towards peace and prosperity.”
Go also shared his plans to help LGUs become or remain drug-free. He said he would help the government build a sports and development center in every LGU and provide free school supplies to students so that the youth can focus on sports and their education.
“Titingnan ko rin ang mga paraan upang i-amiyenda ang Juvenile Justice Law,” Go added. “Marami na sa ating mga kabataan ang ginagamit ng mga masasamang loob sa paggawa ng krimen.”
Go also plans to support the establishment of additional free rehabilitation and reformation centers for surrenderees who were former drug pushers and abusers.
Regarding surrenderees, Go said: “Bigyan po natin ng pagkakataon ‘yung mga gustong magbagong buhay. Kahit isa lang sa kanila ang involved, ang pamilya ay puwedeng mapilayan at masira dahil sa droga.”
