SENATOR Christopher ‘Bong’ Go said he will recommend to President Rodrigo Duterte and Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade the continuation of the pilot run for motorcycle taxis amid the recommendation of the DOTr technical working group to terminate its study on the matter.
“I will recommend to the President and to Sec. Art Tugade the extension of the pilot program for motorcycle taxis provided that they will abide and care for the safety of the passengers,” Go said during the Senate hearing.
He said he will support the continuation of the program, and the amendments to Republic Act 4136 to include motorcycles as an alternative public transport.
“I recognize the benefits they provide to the commuting public. Ang gusto ko lamang, ay gawin lahat nang maayos and most importantly, maprotektahan ang interest ng commuting public,” he said.
Earlier in the day, TWG chairperson and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Board Member Antonio Gardiola Jr. said they submitted their recommendation to Congress and it was endorsed by Tugade.
In explaining the reason for the termination, Gardiola cited the legal case filed by one of the players.
“Parang magulo e. We are resorting to legal rigmarole sa nangyayaring ito. File sila ng kaso so nai-impede ang study. We cannot gather data because of actions being taken by one of the players so it is better to terminate it,” he said.
