Bong Go thanks supporters for helping calamity victims

December 11, 2018

FORMER Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go on Monday thanked his supporters for their commitment and initiative to be involved in his efforts to help fire victims.

Go made the statement as he and his supporters visited fire victims in Barangay 15, Zaragoza Tondo, Manila to extend assistance. A fire that razed the area last Sunday left more than 60 families homeless.

“Kaya nga nananawagan ako sa mga kaibigan ko. No government funds po ito galing po ito sa mga kaibigan na tumutulong sa akin -- dito po namin ipinapamahagi ang mga tulong ninyo,” Go said.

He reiterated his earlier appeal to his supporters to use the funds intended for promotional materials for plywood and other housing materials for victims of fire and other natural calamities.

However, Go said he also appealed to various national government agencies to provide additional assistance to the fire victims.

“Nakikiusap naman po ako sa mga kasamahan ko sa gobyerno noon -- NHA, DoH, DSWD, PAGCOR at PCSO -- na magbigay sila ng counterpart in coordination with the barangay captain. Ito namang mga dala namin dito pribado po ito, kaunting pagkain, pambili ng gamit po.  Ang importante po ay makapag-adjust sila sa nangyari sa kanila,” Go said in an ambush interview.

As part of his advocacy to empower the youth through education, Go committed to provide school supplies and uniforms to students who were affected by the fire, as well as clothing for workers and employees among the fire victims.

“Yung mga batang nag-aaral pa, ako ‘yung bibili ng school supplies. Pati na rin ‘yung mga nag-tatrabaho, nag-o-opisina bibigyan namin ng damit,” Go said.

Meanwhile, Go encouraged those who need medical assistance to visit Malasakit Centers that cater to all Filipinos, especially the poor who cannot afford medical treatment and medicine.

The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop program of President Rodrigo R. Duterte to hasten the delivery of medical services and give indigent patients easy access to financial assistance and free medicine. It was Go who led the establishment of such centers during his stint as special assistant to President Duterte.

Go, a candidate in the 2019 senatorial race, said there should be more Malasakit Centers nationwide so he would push for the enactment of a law that would mandate the creation of such centers in every province in the country.

In addition, he bared his plans to establish sports and development facilities in every local government unit so people, especially the youth, may have access to quality sports training and skills development so as to keep them away from crime, corruption, and illegal drugs.

Furthermore, Go assured the public that if elected to the Senate, he will also focus on the improvement of evacuation centers in order to bring relief and comfort to each and every Filipino who will be in need in times of calamities -- providing them what they deserve.

“Isa po ito sa aking priority legislative agenda kung sakaling papalarin ako: fire safety measures and prevention at papalakasin rin natin ang Bureau of Fire Protection natin para madaling masugpo at maiwasan ang mga sunog,” Go added.
