BPO workers to Duterte: Save us

January 23, 2020

THE investigation into the lease contract between Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) and the University of the Philippines (UP) has yet to start but Technohub employees, particularly BPO workers, have expressed apprehension over losing their jobs.

“Sa mga nangyayari ngayon at sa mga nababasa mo, nakakatakot na baka isang araw magising ka na lang na wala ka na palang mapapasukan kasi ipinasara na,” said Virmel Villareal, 31, who works at  Synnex-Concentrix, a BPO company at Tehnohub.

Virmel said she never encountered any problem and her working environment  has proved to be safe and hassle-free in the two years that she had been working with Technohub.

She added that Technohub is accessible to everything and everyone and orderly policies were being implemented in the whole complex. Thus Virmel revealed that she and her colleagues at work were saddened upon learning that the UP-Technohub would be investigated.

“Nananawagan  po kami kay Pangulong Duterte, huwag naman sana kaming mawalan ng trabaho.  Napakahirap mawalan ng trabaho sa panahong ito,” appealed Virmel.

The same sentiment was expressed by Paula Biazon who also works at Synnex-Concentrix.

Biazon expressed hope that the looming investigation into the Technohub deal would not affect the workers as it is so difficult to find jobs nowadays.

Ma. Cristina dela Vega, a call center agent at Convergys, appealed to Malacanang to give Ayala Land a chance to explain. She said that she doesn’t believe the contract is anomalous especially since Technohub entered into a partnership with UP, a noble institution which would not enter into an onerous contract nor allow itself to be swindled.

Ferdinand Abelardo, also a center agent at Convergys, expressed hope and appealed to Malacanang to consider the workers in its investigation of Technohub.

Abelardo stressed that he would not have stayed long with Technohub if it did not take care of its employees or did not have good management. He added that the workers are satisfied with the benefits they receive.

“Malaki ang pasasalamat naming mga BPO worker at na-develop ng Ayala ang lupain ng UP. Dati kasi ay puro talahib lang ito, hindi napakikinabangan at tapunan pa ng mga bangkay,” he added.
