AN eight-year-old caroller was killed after being accidentally hit and run by an Asian Utility Vehicle (AUV) while trying to cross the street in Pasig City Tuesday, police said yesterday.
A belated report from the Eastern Police District (EPD) identified the fatality as Miguel Eco, resident of Bgy. Rosario, Pasig City.
Eco died while undergoing treatment at the Pasig City General Hospital (PCGH) due to body and head injuries.
The unidentified driver of an AUV, a Toyota Innova, escaped after the accident.
Pasig Police chief Senior Supt. Rizalito Gapas Jr. said the victim and other kids were carolling along Bernal Street, Rayos Compound, Bgy. Rosario when the tragedy occurred at around 7 p.m.
Witnesses said the boy was dragged two meters away where he was hit.
The driver of the AUV did not bother to stop and check the victim after the accident.
Pasig police are verifying with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) the registered owner of the said vehicle.
The suspect will be facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
