THE cat is now out of the bag.
Philippine National Police chief, General Camilo Pancratius P. Cascolan yesterday revealed that his underclassman, current Police Regional Office 4-A director in Calabarzon region, Brigadier General Vicente D. Danao Jr. is being eyed as the next National Capital Region Police Office chief.
The top cop added that NCRPO chief, Major Gen. Debold M. Sinas is also being considered for transfer to a new post in Camp Crame as he deserves to get a promotion.
Cascolan bared in a television interview that the performance of Sinas is still being evaluated as of press time. “ “Well until now there’s no replacement. We have to evaluate him properly. The guy deserves also an evaluation and of course, a promotion too. He has done good things and that’s all really I can say,” the PNP chief said.
The top police official said that Sinas, a member of Philippine Military Academy ‘Hinirang’ Class of 1987 will most likely be assigned to a PNP Directorial Staff position. Sinas will retire from the police force on May next year.
“I think he needs to be up to the Directorial Staff or a certain position that is fit most especially for him,” said the PNP chief who described Sinas as an expert most especially when it comes to training of police personnel and recruits.
Cascolan is still scouting for the next head of the PNP Directorate for Human Resource Doctrine and Development which will be left vacant with the retirement this coming October 3 of its present head, Maj. Gen. Amador V. Corpus.
Corpus and Cascolan are both members of PMA ‘Sinagtala’ Class of 1986 while Danao is from PMA ‘Sambisig’ Class of 1991.
The PNP chief has reshuffled key police positions at least four times since he took over as the country’s top cop last September 2 with the retirement of his mistah, Gen. Archie Francisco F. Gamboa.
The buzz in Camp Crame shortly after Gen. Cascolan assumed his post is that Danao, a former Davao City police chief who worked with President Duterte when he was still the city mayor will either be the next NCRPO chief or director of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group. Both NCRPO and the PNP-CIDG are headed by 2-star police generals.
A tough police official feared by criminals, Danao is widely touted to become the next PNP chief with many sources saying that his designation as NCRPO chief will cement his stature as a future Chief, PNP.
Journal Group sources said that supposed to be, PNP-CIDG director, Maj. Gen. Joel Napoleon M. Coronel who will be retiring on February 11 next year is slated to become the PNP Director for Investigation and Detective Management. However, the top PNP-DIDM post has been given already to erstwhile PNP Comptroller, Brig. Gen. Marni C. Marcos Jr. of PMA ‘Maringal’ Class of 1988 last week.
Cascolan said that Brig. Gen. Danao indeed is being considered to be the next NCRPO chief. “Yes of course. He’s doing good. He did his best and he has done good in PRO IV-A. not even that, he has a reputation in the service, he is a very competent person too,” he said.
The PNP chief also admitted that Danao is also being considered to lead the PNP-CIDG.
“Whether CIDG or NCRPO, it’s good. But I would rather choose him for NCRPO because he is much better really in NCRPO,” he said.
Retiring on August 2023, Danao used to be the Manila Police District director before he was transferred to Calabarzon region. Journal Group sources said that Brig. Gen. Felipe R. Natividad, a member of PMA ‘Bigkis Lahi’ Class of 1990 who is currently the Senior Police Assistant of Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo M. Año is being considered to replace Danao at PRO4-A.Publication Source : People's Tonight
