FROM its first schedule in February, the House Committee on Constitutional amendments is postponing until May the plenary deliberations on the proposed amendments to the 1987 Constitution.
In an interview, panel chairman Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez said the committee decided to recall the panel-approved Resolution of Both Houses on Charter Change to consider the proposals submitted by the Department of the Interior and Local Government-Interagency Task Force on Federalism and Constitutional Reform.
Rodriguez said the committee is considering the proposals of DILG since the task force was created by President Rodrigo Duterte and is composed of at least 17 departments.
“For the proposal we are going back to the drawing board, we are back to hearing the proposal, it is now the DILG’s and the inter-agency’s time to brief us and this is something we will consider. We will not proceed yet with the plenary discussion on the proposed amendments,” Rodriguez said.
