CIDG agents arrest 5 hoarders

SEPARATE operations against profiteers and hoarders in the countryside last Wednesday led in the arrest of six persons for selling overpriced alcohol and thermal scanners, Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group director, Major General Joel Napoleon M. Coronel said yesterday.

One of the suspects identified as Estrellita Galimba, a 43-year old online seller, was arrested in a sting outside the Lopue’s Araneta in Araneta Avenue, Barangay 15 in Bacolod City shortly before noon last Wednesday.

Members of the CIDG Bacolod City Field Unit and the local police arrested the suspect for selling overpriced unlabeled alcohol. The suspect was found to be selling a bottle of alcohol for P350 each which is way beyond the suggested retail price of the Department of Trade and Industry which is P148.50 each only.

Recovered from the suspect’s possession were 30 1-liter bottles of alcohol worth P105,000 and the marked money paid to her by a poseur.

The four other suspects identified as Julee Miranda,43; Efrel Baldelobar,61; Joey Baldelobar, 32; and Dennis Posadas,54, were arrested for selling overpriced thermal scanners to a poseur inside the Top Choice Supermarket in Bgy. Maderan, General Mariano Alvarez in Cavite.

Local CIDG and police operatives conducted the sting amid reports that Miranda is involved in the sale of overpriced thermal scanners. The CIDG discovered that the suspects were selling thermal scanners at P8,500 each unit.

Recovered during the sting were 40 units of Polygreen Thermal Scanners each being sold for P8,500 or for a total amount of P340,000, the buy-bust money and a black Ford Everest,

All suspects are now facing charges for violation of the Price Act and Consumer Act of the Philippines.
