Comelec starts printing ballots in January

THE Commission on Elections said the printing of ballots for the 2019 elections will start in the third week of January.

James Jimenez, Comelec spokesperson, said the poll body is not in a rush, however, and there is still time to finalize and update the list of candidates.

“Yung pag-iimprenta ng balota naka-schedule sa third week of January, so medyo may slack time tayo,” he said.

Jimenez also said that the official list of candidates has yet to be released since the Comelec is still in the process of finalizing it.

“Hindi pa natin naia-announce kasi di pa tapos yung proseso ng paglilinis ng listahan. Marami pang pending na kaso especially yung mga nag-appeal,” he said.

The spokesperson added that there are currently more than 140 senatorial candidates on the list as the only ones removed so far are those who withdrew their candidacy. Those who are perceived to be nuisance candidates are still on the list

“Ang concern namin kasi is if you go ahead and release this list ngayon tapos later on maga-appeal sila or matalo yung appeal nila, tapos hindi na pala sila kasama, eh nailabas mo na yung balita na sila ay kandidato. Baka magkaroon ka ng disenfranchisement down the road,” he explained.
