A HOUSE leader expressed full support for the crackdown on illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGO) .
ACT-CIS Rep. Eric Go Yap, vice chairman of the House Committee on Games and Amusements, said Non-Registered Offshore Gaming Operations (NOGOs) should be stopped because they are affecting the legal offshore gaming and do not provide income to the government.
On Thursday, at least 265 Chinese nationals allegedly engaged in illegal online gaming operations were arrested by joint forces in Las Piñas City.
The police recovered P6,463,490 in cash, 143 pieces of foreign currency bills, assorted laptop computers, desktop computers, central processing units (CPUs), cellphones, and other computer gadgets.
Yap reiterated his condemnation of NOGOs and urged Philippine Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) to carry out more raids.
“We are following these reports. Sisiguraduhinnatinnamapapanagotsilasakanilangpaglabagsabatas. We commend the authorities for continuously going after these NOGOs. This should serve as a warning parasamganagsasagawang underground operations patisamgamagbabalak pa lang. Hindi kayo makakaligtas,” Yap said.
“Aside from the fact that they are conducting illegal gaming operations, they are also breaching the security and health protocols observed during the community quarantine. Kung sino pa ang illegal, sila pa angmalakasangloobnamagviolatenito,” he added.
The Inter-agency task force (IATF) on coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic allowed POGOs to reopen in general enhanced community quarantine.
However, NOGOs disguised as POGOs also are active.
“Kung akalanila di silahuhulihin, nagkakamalisila. There is no excuse parasaginagawanila.
