DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte is tough, but when her city delivered 12-0 victory for the administration senatorial candidates, she cried.
In her Instagram post, Mayor Duterte admitted that she “sobbed” when her constituents supported the 12 senatorial bets of the Hugpong ng Pagbabago.
None of the opposition, independent and non-aligned candidates were in the top 12 of the Senate race in Davao City, according to a tally transmitted by the Commission on Elections.
“I am humbled as I bow. I am not a person who cries easily but when it was definite that Davao City delivered a 12-0 vote for Senators of HNP, the tears flowed and the sobbing followed,” President Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter told her 389,000 Instagram followers.
Mayor Sara is one of the founders of HNP and designated to be the party’s chairperson.
In the 90-day campaign period, Mayor Sara accompanied the 13 candidates of HNP and served as their campaign manager.
Nine out of the top 12 bets are from the HNP. Canvassing of votes is still ongoing.
According to Mayor Sara, the 12-0 was first in the city’s history.
Quoting a Bible verse, Mayor Duterte said, “Unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required.”
“Daghang Salamat sa inyong tanan. I have said that I feel alone everyday stressing over making sure Davao City is ok but when I need am in distress, Dabawenyos carry me on their backs,” she added.
Re-elected for a second term, Mayor Sara was also given a landslide victory getting more than 500,000 votes.
“Salamat sa inyo. I promise to work harder until I break. I love you all,” she added.
The other presidential children also won uncontested -- Paolo as Representative of Davao City First District and Sebastian as Vice Mayor.
