Department of Transportation readies nationwide deployment of more beep jeeps

November 24, 2018

MORE brand new modern public jeepney units or “beep jeeps” will be dispatched to serve the public in the next few days.

According to 1 UTAK Partylist  chairman Vigor Mendoza II, this is in line with the Duterte administration’s modernization program of the public utility vehicles under the Department of Transportation (DoTr) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Mendoza said more beep jeeps are ready to roam the streets of Baguio City, Visayas, Cagayan De Oro and other key cities nationwide.

“Lahat po ng units at brand new in line sa modernization program ready to roll, medyo naiinip na nga mga driver kasi gusto nang bumiyahe at isakay ang mga pasahero para maranasan ang mga bago at air-conditioned na mga units. Take note na same fare ito sa ordinary jeep,” said Mendoza.

Mendoza stressed that deployment of more brand new units will create more jobs for Filipinos.

“Hindi lang drivers  makikinabang dito, pati conductors, mechanics and other personnel to run the fleet,” said Mendoza.

In July, the DoTr officially began the deployment of at least 150 modern public vehicles at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.

The modern PUVs were made available for dispatch to operators with franchises validated by the LTFRB.

The DoTr said the new modern jeepneys conform to the existing environmental and product standards set by the Bureau of Standards and provide “safe, comfortable, efficient and environment-friendly public transport to Filipinos.”        Under the PUV modernization program, all public utility vehicles aged 15 years and older will be replaced.
