LAWYER Jude Sabio yesterday revealed that he will be withdrawing the case he filed against President Duterte before the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity.

Sabio, who was the lawyer of self-confessed Davao Death Squad (DDS) member Edgar Matobato, disclosed that he would personally submit his letter of withdrawal to ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda at the soonest possible time.

“I also fervently request that the legal matter pending with your office in relation to the war on drugs in the Philippines should be set aside and thrashed for being just a part of the political propaganda of Senator [Antonio] Trillanes, Senator [Leila] De Lima, and their LP-led opposition of which I do not wish to be a part,” a portion of Sabio’s letter, which lawyer Larry Gadon provided to media men, read in part.

Gadon also sent photos and video of Sabio signing the letter to the ICC.

Sabio filed a complaint before the ICC in The Hague, Netherlands, accusing President Rodrigo Duterte and 11 other government officials of crimes against humanity.

According to him, Duterte violated the Articles of the Rome Statute through commission of mass murder or extrajudicial executions during his term as Davao City mayor and now President of the Philippines through his aggressive campaign against illegal drugs.

Aside from Duterte, also included in the case were then Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, Senator Richard Gordon, House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, Solicitor General Jose Calida, and National Bureau of Investigation director Dante Gierran.
