PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte is set to fire more than 50 officials and employees of the Bureau of Customs (BoC) for alleged corruption, Malacañang said yesterday.
Duterte’s spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the officials and employees in the firing line are on floating status as they face administrative and criminal charges.
“Ganun karami ang involved sa corruption,” Panelo said at a news conference.
“Ang pagkakaalam ko may nagsumbong kay (BoC) Commissioner (Rey Leonardo) Guerrero at pinaimbestigahan niya. Maraming anomaliya involving certain officials.”
He said the names of those allegedly involved in corrupt activities would be disclosed at the appropriate time.
Panelo said on Wednesday that the administration would “continue to dismantle corruption in the bureaucracy and rid it of corrupt officials and employees.”
Duterte said in his recent speeches that he would dismiss BC officials even as the Palace said Guerrero continued to enjoy the President’s trust.
The President is also looking at tapping soldiers to run the bureau.
