THE Department of Education (DepEd) yesterday declared an early Christmas break in public schools for students to have more time with their family.
The Education Department has moved the start of schools’ Christmas break from December 22 to December 15.
“The Department of Education values children spending quality time with the family. The Christmas season provides an opportunity for students to strengthen their emotional bonds with their family,” the order stated.
The Education Department, however, said that December 15, will remain a class day intended for student activities.
DepEd Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla said the decision to move the schools’ Christmas break at an earlier date would keep students from getting caught in the Holiday rush.
Some lawmakers earlier asked the Education Department to consider moving the start of schools’ Christmas break at an earlier date to help decongest streets expected to be extra busy at the time.
Classes will resume on January 2.
