FORMER National Capital Region Police Office director Major General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar yesterday took his oath as a 3-star or a Police Lieutenant General before Philippine National Police Officer-in-Charge Lt. Gen. Archie Francisco F. Gamboa.
With his promotion, the 54-year-old Eleazar became the highest-ranked member of Philippine Military Academy “Hinirang” Class of 1987.
President Rodrigo Duterte approved the promotion of Eleazar due to his position as PNP Chief Directorial Staff, the 4th highest position in the PNP.
Last Monday, Gamboa also led the oath-taking ceremony and donning of rank of five newly-promoted police generals led by new Major General Gilberto D. Cruz.
Cruz, a member of PNP Academy Class 1986, is the head of the PNP Directorate for Integrated Police Operations-Northern Luzon.
The other four newly-promoted Brigadier Generals were Alexander J. Sampaga, Ronnie S. Montejo, Jonathan M. Ureta and Robert T. Rodriguez.
Sampaga is currently the Deputy Regional Director for Administration of the Police Regional Office 6 in Western Visayas while Montejo is the Quezon City Police District director.
Ureta is the director of the PNP EOD/K-9 Group while Rodriguez is the Executive Director of the PNP Directorate for Personnel and Records Management.
Eleazar is one of the top candidates for the top PNP post apart from Gamboa and the latter’s classmate from PMA ‘Sinagtala” Class of 1986 Lt. Gen. Camilo Pancratius P. Cascolan, and Police Regional Office 4-A director Brigadier Gen. Vicente D. Danao Jr. of the PMA “Sambisig” Class of 1991.
