JUSTICE Undersecretary Markk Perete yesterday confirmed that former Calauan, Laguna mayor Antonio Sanchez was admitted to the New Bilibid Prison hospital due to various ailments.
Perete said Sanchez requested to be transferred to the Philippine General Hospital. The request remains pending.
“Former Calauan Mayor Sanchez was admitted last Monday to the National Bilibid Prisons hospital. He was diagnosed to have electrolyte imbalance secondary to acute gastro enteritis, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, benign prostatic hypertrophy,” Perete said.
” He is scheduled for further medical tests and has requested to be transferred to the PGH. NBPH is awaiting advise from PGH,” he added.
Sanchez earlier hogged the headlines after he was supposed to be released for good conduct.
He was convicted for the 1993 rape and murder of University of the Philippines Los Baños students Eileen Sarmenta and Allan Gomez.
The verdict was handed down on March 11, 1995 by Judge Harriet Demetrio who described the rape and murder of Sarmenta and Gomez as “a plot seemingly hatched in hell.”
The Supreme Court upheld the Laguna regional trial court ruling in 1999 against Sanchez, who is currently serving his sentence of seven terms of reclusion perpetua at the NBP.
