Go: Truth must come out on ‘ninja cops’

October 02, 2019

SENATOR Christopher Lawrence Go said President Rodrigo Duterte might ask the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to get to the bottom of the ‘ninja cop’ issue during a Senate Blue Ribbon committee public hearing.

“At the conclusion of this hearing, the President might ask the DILG to investigate and get to the bottom of this. The truth must come out,” Go said.

The ninja cops issue surfaced after Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, former head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP), gave the Senate a list of the names of the alleged ninja cops on September 19. The names were revealed by Magalong during the Tuesday public hearing.

Despite the controversy faced by the PNP, Go said the institution remains committed to reforming itself.

“In fairness to the PNP, patuloy ang kanilang cleansing, internal cleansing program ng PNP.

Go added the police is instrumental in the government campaign against illegal drugs and corruption, prompting Duterte to increase their salary.

While he maintains his confidence with the police, Go urged trustworthy officials not to cover for the few, erring ones, or they could risk wasting the trust given to them by the Filipinos.

Sayang yung three-year effort ng ating mga pulis at ang respetong nakamit ninyo,” said Go.

Amid the “ninja cop” issue, Go said he and Duterte fully support the PNP.

“Nag-file po ako ng Senate Bill 393, an act providing free legal assistance to any officer or enlisted personnel.
