Good behavior factor in approval of police security -- Albayalde

Oscar D. Albayalde

RADIO broadcaster Erwin Tulfo’s behavior on-air, the latest of which saw him cursing and threatening to plunge Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rolando Bautista’s face to the toilet, might cause him to lose police security permanently.

A highly-reliable Journal Group source said there is a recommendation to permanently strip Tulfo of his two protective agents from the Police Security and Protection Group for his uncalled for behavior last week that earned him angry comments and criticisms.

Yesterday, Philippine National Police  chief Director General Oscar D. Albayalde said behavior is among the factors being considered on whether or not to recall the police security escorts provided to private individuals.

“Hindi ‘yung behavior ang basic reason, but that is a factor also,” Albayalde told newsmen at Camp Crame a day after the PNP was ordered to recall all PSPG escorts provided to Tulfo and his brothers Ramon, Raffy and Ben and Raffy ‘s wife Jocelyn.

Albayalde  said the recall “has something to do with his comments to the Secretary of DSWD although it was not the main reason.”

PSPG director Brigadier General Filmore B. Escobal said the recall was part of a “regular review” of their personnel providing security to private citizens with confirmed threats on their lives.

Part of the regular review is the “Police Information and Continuing Education” in which PSPG personnel are required to report to the PSPG headquarters in full uniform so that they can be properly accounted for before undergoing basic lectures.

“It’s a part of the regular process of the PSPG to periodically review yung availment of protective security personnel. Hindi lang ‘yan sa specific personality,” the member of Philippine Military Academy Class 1991 said.
