THE Office of Senator Christopher “Bong” Go collaborated with the National Housing Authority in delivering government housing assistance to fire victims in Centro Kolambog and San Lazaro, Lapasan during an aid distribution activity held at NHA Regional Office X in Macabalan, Cagayan de Oro City.
“Ngayon, nandiyan ang ating mga national agencies, nandiyan ngayon ang ating NHA, mayroon silang dalang tulong ito ang programang EHAP (Emergency Housing Assistance Program),” the Senator said.
He thanked the housing agency, its regional and district officials, and other concerned government agencies for helping the fire victims rebuild their houses razed by the fire incident. The Senator also acknowledged the efforts of village officials for taking care of their constituents.
“Salamat talaga sa NHA. Salamat rin kay Engineer Rolando Teves, regional manager, Engineer Fe Ancheta, district manager ng NHA, Lorraine Brillantes ng DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) at Kapitan Julito Ogsimer ng Lapasan. Salamat sa inyong lahat,” Go said.
Representatives of the NHA provided assistance under its Emergency Housing Assistance Program to families whose houses were partially and totally damaged. The distribution was conducted in strict compliance with health protocols.
Recognizing the need for every Filipino family to have decent homes, Go filed Senate Bill 203, also called the National Housing Development, Production and Financing Bill, last July 2019. It seeks to generate and mobilize funds to increase low-cost housing production; provide support mechanisms to improve access to housing options; guarantee the development of a strong, sustainable, accessible and affordable housing finance system; and increase private sector participation, among others.
He also filed in December 2019 another bill seeking to provide more assistance. SBN 1227 or the Rental Housing Subsidy Program Act intends to provide families displaced by natural and man-made disasters with improved access to the formal housing market by offering a rental subsidy.
During the distribution, Go’s team also extended its own assistance to 108 individuals affected by the fire incident. They were provided with food packs and meals, masks, face shields, vitamins and basic medicines. Some also received pairs of shoes.
Bicycles were also given to those who need them most while computer tablets were given to selected beneficiaries for their children to use in their blended learning education.
Go also offered to help those who need major health operations and urged beneficiaries to visit the nearest Malasakit Center located in Northern Mindanao Medical Center and JR Borja General Hospital in the city. The center streamlines the process of requesting medical assistance from government agencies, particularly for the poor and indigent patients.
“Ito ang aking isinulong noon na batas na ngayon ay pinirmahan na ni Presidente Duterte. Para talaga ito sa mga Pilipino, ang Malasakit Center. Lapitan niyo lang ito,” he said.
“Ito lang po ang lagi natin tatandaan: minsan lang po tayo dadaan sa mundong ito, kung ano po kabutihan ang pwede natin maitulong sa kapwa tao natin ay gawin na natin dahil hindi na po tayo babalik sa mundong ito,” said Go.
“Kami ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ay patuloy na magseserbisyo sa inyo dahil para sa amin ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo rin sa Diyos,” he added.
