THE Department of Health has reported that typhoon Ompong had left several hospitals in the Cagayan and Ilocos regions in bad shape.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said at least two DoH buildings in Cagayan were reported damaged while some government buildings in the Ilocos region were affected by severe flooding.
“Sa Region II, two damaged buildings of the DoH regional office and then sa Region I naman, ang ating Region I medical centers, na sa matinding pagbabaha sa ngayon at patuloy ang pagtaas ng baha sa naturang ospital. Kasama rin ang mga kasangkapan at dokumento,” he said Saturday afternoon.
Duque said that based on reports, some 50 patients at a medical center in Cagayan had to be transferred to higher ground after the building was flooded.
When asked about the number of people that were reported injured, Duque said teams were still conducting their rapid health and damage assessment.
“Meron na po tayong nakahandang doktor, nurses, at ang mga response teams po natin ay binabantayan po nila kung meron saka-sakaling outbreaks or epidemia sa mga naturang evacuation centers,” the health chief said.
