THE House of Representatives approved a resolution asking the Commission on Elections to reset the period for the filing of certificate of candidacy.
The House Concurrent Resolution No. 20 filed by Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Majority Leader Rolando Andaya Jr. was supported by all members of the Lower House. It urges the Comelec to set October 11 until 17 the filing of certificate of candidacy.
The Comelec set from October 1 to 5, 2018 the filing of candidacy to have enough time for the printing of ballots to be used in the May 13, 2019 national and local elections.
But the authors wanted to make sure that the one-week filing will not affect the deliberation on the 2019 proposed national budget of P3.757 trillion.
The Congress will have session break from October 12 to November 11.
“The House of Representatives is currently deliberating on the proposed 2019 General Appropriations Bill and other priority measures that require their utmost and undivided attentions,” the resolution said.
