THE House of Representatives has started preparing for the 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte.
House Secretary General Dante Roberto Maling said the House is already 75 percent to 80 percent ready for the SONA.
The 4th SONA is scheduled on July 22. The opening of the 18th Congress will be in the morning of the same date.
“Siguro sa ngayon it’s safe to say we’re probably between 75 to 80%t prepared,” Maling said in an ambush interview.
According to Maling, the House of Representatives has been preparing for the event for the last three months.
“In the background, yung mga usual preparations, yung preparation ng budget, yung mga programs, mga scripts, para sa amin, I would consider it na traditional. Puwede nang... parang de-kahon na siya,” he said.
“Hindi na masyadong mahirap sa amin yung transition from one Congress to another kasi through the years, wala naman masyadong nababagong preparations except of course yung presidente, yung mga members ng Congress,” he added.
Meanwhile, Maling said the Lower Chamber is already coordinating with the Presidential Security Group (PSG) on security measures for the SONA.
Aside from PSG, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is also set to deploy police personnel to ensure the security of President Duterte, the VIPs, the diplomats and other guests.
“Yung protocol naman has been in place for the last many Congresses. So kung meron mang mababago doon sa protocol, it’s just probably kung sino yung kasama ni Presidente na maglalakad, things like that,” Maling said.
