Hugpong ng Pagbabago won’t seek religious groups’ nod for Senate bets

Sara Duterte Carpio

HUGPONG ng Pagbabago founder and chairman Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will not go to religious groups to ask for support for the team’s senatorial bets.

Instead, the candidates can go as representatives not of HNP but of their party, or individually.

In an interview, Duterte-Carpio said while she’s the campaign manager of the HNP, she’s leaving to the candidate the decision to ask the support of big religious groups particularly the Iglesia ni Cristo.

“As a group, we will not seek endorsement anymore. Hindi naman talaga sila member ng HNP, adopted lang sila so baka hindi pumayag sa ganoong gagawin namin,” the presidential daughter said.

Every election, candidates court different groups especially the INC which is implementing block voting. Other big and individual groups include Jesus is Lord movement (JIL) and Kingdom Of Jesus of Pastor Quiboloy.

“But we leave it to the individual candidates to make their own arrangements sa ganyan,”she said.

“Sinabihan namin  sila na individually sila na or as a party. Meron tayong NPC, PDP sa mga slate natin. As a party sila dapat yung pumunta doon sa mga kailangan nilang kausapin to solicit support,” she added.

Earlier, at least three HNP candidates admitted that there are close friends and supporters who are already helping them get the votes of the INC members.

Senatoriables Jiggy Manicad, Francis Tolentino and Sen. JV Ejercito said the help
of the INC is very important because of block voting.

The three expressed confidence that they will get the endorsements of the big religious groups.
