Hugpong throws thanksgiving party for allies, supporters

THE Hugpong ng Pagbabago led by its chairperson Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte  threw Monday night held a Thanksgiving party for its candidates, allies and supporters in the midterm elections.

President Rodrigo Duterte was the guest of honor.

In her short speech, Mayor Duterte expressed gratitude to all those who helped the team in their 68 campaign sorties in different provinces in the country from February 12 to May 9.

“I would like to thank you for accepting our invitation to thank you personally for your support to the 13 senators. Kayo po ang reason bakit nanalo ang majority sa mga senators na tinulungan ng HNP,” Sara said.

Nine of the HNP senatorial candidates won the mid-term elections.
“Hindi namin magagawa iyon kung hindi sa tulong niyong lahat,” Sara added.

Reelected Sen. Cynthia Villar, who garnered the most number of votes, was present at  the event together with Senators-elect Pia Cayetano, Bong Go, Bato dela Rosa, Sonny Angara, Imee Marcos, Francis Tolentino and Bong Revilla.

Mayor Sara did not talk of politics during the event despite the presence of speakership hopefuls Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez, Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco and Taguig City Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano.

People are waiting for either President Rodrigo Duterte’s or Mayor Sara’s endorsement of the next speaker.

“No wins, no losses, no rivalries, no work. Just song and refreshments, letting loose, letting our hair down, enjoying each other’s company,” Sara said.

Even losing senatorial candidates Jiggy Manicad and  Dong Mangudadatu were present in the event.

Among those invited were Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo; former Senate President Manny Villar and children Public Works and Highways Sec. Mark Villar and Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar and members of different political parties.

Gracing the party, President Duterte sang at least three songs, one was Wind Beneath My Wings dedicated to Mayor Sara and Ikaw for his former wife Elizabeth Zimmerman.

After his number, the President said, “For the record, I love you, Elizabeth Zimmerman. Sabihin mo (Sara) sa kanya.”
Duterte’s last song was MacArthur Park by Richard Harris.

Mayor Sara on the other hand sang Bed of Roses by Bon Jovi. The other guests also sang, danced and dined during the party held in The Peninsula Manila.
