Hundreds stranded in ports

ABOUT 500 travellers were stranded along with hundreds of cargoes in different ports in Southern Tagalog, Bicol and Eastern Visayas due to typhoon Quinta.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said that as of 12 noon yesterday, at least 577 passengers, truck drivers and cargo helpers remain in 26 ports. About 473 rolling cargos, 21 ships and 10 motor bancas were also delayed.

Meanwhile, a total of 121 sea vessels and 51 motor bancas had to be evacuated from their docking areas as precautionary measure due eto the typhoon.

“The PCG Command Center is on 24/7 monitoring to strictly implement guidelines on the movement of vessels during heavy weather. Meanwhile, Coast Guard Districts, Stations, and Sub-Stations across the country are on standby to respond on emergency situations, in coordination with local government units and disaster response teams,” the PCG said.
