Ilocos-Pangasinan police force bares anti-crime accomplishments

November 29, 2018

DUBBED as the ‘Home of the Citizen-Friendly Policemen,’ the Police Regional Office 1 has bared its major anti-crime accomplishments in Ilocos-Pangasinan region which has been dampened by the killing of 9 persons including 3 politicians in La Union province since May this year.

According to PRO1 director, Chief Superintendent Romulo E. Sapitula, he has ordered a stepped-up crackdown against criminality with all his provincial, city and municipal police chiefs under instruction to be unrelenting in fighting the presence of loose firearms, partisan armed groups and guns-for-hire in their areas.

Sapitula said they expect a possible increase in crimes in the region this coming Yuletide season but said they are  implementing more proactive measures to prevent this.

Sapitula said that from January 1 to last November 15,  their anti-drug campaign had led in the conduct of 1,616 operations which resulted in the arrest of 1,733 known drug dealers and users and the surrender of 39,714 including 692 newly-identified drug personalities.

The same period saw PRO1 emerge No. 1 when it comes to the PNP Recovery and Wellness Programs  conducted for drug surrenderers.

Out of the 17 police regional offices in the country, PRO1 displayed an overall percentage of 78.53 percent or 31,188 drug surrenderers who graduated from the PRO1’s-own recovery and wellness programs.

Sapitula said  their own campaign against loose firearms led in the arrest of 556 suspects and the confiscation of 559 assorted unlicensed guns, many of them believed to have been used in the commission of crimes in the area.

PRO1 also neutralized 45 suspected members of drug trafficking rings and robbery-holdup and gun-for-hire syndicates operating in the region  so far this year.

Under their “Oplan: Dakip’ or  campaign against wanted persons, Sapitula said they arrested 2,636  persons for a 113 percent performance evaluation rating based on their 2,328 monthly performance target.

Sapitula said that with their improved anti-criminality efforts, PRO1 was able to surpass other regions in terms of peace and order based on the reported crime statistics for the month of January to September 2018.

He said PRO1 was adjudged as No. 1 in Crime Clearance after garnering an average rating of 90.30 percent and ranked No. 2 in Crime Solution Efficiency on both index and non-index crimes with a rating of 76.65 percent nationwide.

The PRO1’s gains, campaign however, has been affected by the unsolved killings of politicians in the region which prompted senior Philippine National Police officials to say they are assessing the performance of the regional police force.
