SENATOR Kiko Pangilinan said the opposition senators will fully support Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III’s stand on the 2019 proposed budget that was “tampered with by the House leadership”.
“We will only affix our signature to the document that faithfully reflects the voice of Congress and is ratified by its members,” Pangilinan said in a statement.
Pangilinan described the alleged attempts to squeeze kickbacks from the budget as “outrageous.”
“Kung dati ay kickback mula sa mga proyekto ang habol, ngayon, hindi pa aprubado ang budget, may mga gusto nang mag-advance ng commission sa pamamagitan ng ‘parking’ ng mga proyekto sa iba’t ibang distrito,” the senator said.
“The Senate will always be on guard to protect the people’s money,” he assured the public.
Meanwhile, Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson continues to lambast the members of the House of Representatives for “confusing the public” in saying that they are merely itemizing the budget.
“There is a whale of a difference between itemization and realignments of what have been approved by the joint bicameral conference committee and ratified in plenary by both houses of Congress,” Lacson said.
He advised the House leadership to stop pursuing personal attacks on the senators and instead pursue a sensible dialogue with the Senate leadership to finally end the stalemate on this year’s budget.
“Otherwise, we will have no choice but deal with the next House leadership come July,” Lacson ended.
