HOUSE Majority Leader and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez has vowed to continue strengthening the membership of Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD).
Romualdez, president of the Lakas-CMD, said his political party is very much open for expansion.
“Siguro hindi naman masama na kung ‘yung presidente ng Lakas ay Majority Floor Leader, siguro may halaga din po iyon,” said Romualdez.
“We’ll see. Perhaps. We’re always open (to having more members),” Romualdez stressed.
Last Wednesday night, the Lakas-CMD inducted former House Majority Leader and Capiz Rep. Fredenil Castro and Rizal Rep. Fidel Nograles as its newest member.
Romualdez, formerly a candidate for Speaker, was endorsed by President Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte as Majority Leader, the second most powerful position in the Chamber.
The House leader acknowledged the advantages of being a Majority Leader in terms of pushing his advocacies to his colleagues.
“There’s a natural draw when there are opportunities for your advocacies to be put forth and the (House) leadership demonstrates the eagerness and the openness, for the assistance, the guidance and the similar support for your common interests. Nagiging mas attractive po iyon,” said Romualdez.
“Of course the political considerations as well, aligned with the administration and that augurs well. Kaya malamang siguro makakadagdag din tayo ng numero,” Romualdez added.
