MARINDUQUE Rep. Lord Alan Velasco thanked the ruling PDP-Laban for choosing him as the head of the party in the House of Representatives.
Velasco is expected to sit as House Speaker after the term of Taguig City Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano under a term-sharing agreement.
“I am humbled and honored by the decision of the leadership of PDP-Laban to appoint yours truly as party head in the House of Representatives,” Velasco said in a statement.
Velasco is confident that this fresh step by the party will further strengthen unity and camaraderie among PDP-Laban members.
The PDP-Laban has 69 members in the House of Representatives and is considered the biggest bloc.
“With 69 members of PDP-Laban in the House, this new setup will ensure that we move in one direction in taking a party stand on vital issues, but more importantly in supporting the legislative agenda to improve the lives of the Filipino people,” Velasco added.
Cayetano, a member of Nacionalista Party (NP), and Velasco agreed on a 15-21 term sharing with Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez as the Majority Leader.
Earlier, the PDP-Laban also appointed Sen. Manny Pacquiao as party head in the Senate.
Pacquiao and Velasco were picked by PDP-Laban president Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III and party vice chair, Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, to be the highest officials of the ruling party in the two chambers of Congress.
