LAWMAKERS yesterday congratulated Catriona Gray for bringing home the fourth Ms. Universe crown for the country.
Leyte Rep. Yedda Marie Kittilstvedt-Romualdez, a former Binibining Pilipinas International 1996, lauded Gray for giving honor, glory and recognition to Filipinos.
“You deserve the crown Catriona Gray, the Ms. Universe 2018. Your victory is a testament to the faith and resiliency of the Filipino spirit. The resounding triumph of Gray demonstrates to the world the hard work, courage, and strength of Filipinos as trademarks in winning the battle. Congratulations on your well-deserved success,” said Romualdez, first nominee of Tingog Sinirangan party-list and chairperson of the House Committee on Accounts.
Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo also extolled Gray for her victory.
“You’ve made us all proud, Catriona Gray! Congrats on your much-deserved win as Miss Universe 2018. The intelligent, hardworking, and compassionate Filipina is truly world-class. May your example inspire others to reach for their dreams!” said Mrs. Arroyo.
“Ikinalulugod kong malaman na children’s rights and welfare ang piniling adbokasiya ni 2018 Miss Universe Catriona Gray. Nadagdagan tayo ng matibay, maganda, at maimpluwensiyang kapanalig na magsusulong ng mga karapatan at kapakanan ng mga kabataan, ng bagong henerasyon,” said Bagong Henerasyon (BH) party-list Rep. Bernadette Herrera Dy.
Kabayan party-list Rep. Ron Salo thanked Gray for her support on medical marijuana, hoping this would help push the approval of the proposed law seeking to legalize its use in the country for medical purposes.
“We are certain her statement during the pageant will convince Congress to expedite passage of HB (House Bill No.) 6517 into law. I am one of the bill’s co-authors and voted for its approval at committee and will continue to support the bill at plenary and ratification. The principal author of the measure is [Isabela] Rep. Rodito Albano,” said Salo.
“Congratulations to Ms. Philippines, now new Miss Universe Catriona Gray who has brought immense pride and honor to the Filipinos all over the world not only with her beauty but also with her intelligence, integrity and her heart for the poor. She would make a great ambassador for Peace, Love, and Compassion in the international community,” said Bataan Rep. Geraldine Roman, the first transgender congresswoman.
Gray’s kababayan, Albay Rep. Joey Salceda described the Philippines’ candidate as beautiful and regal like the province’s pride Mayon Volcano.
Gray hails from Albay and was designated as tourism ambassador for the province.
“Truly an Albayana, she was the most prepared candidate ever. If you prepare to fight calamities, the more you are prepared for victory. She is regal as Mayon is majestic. She is beautiful, truly Daragang Magayon,” Salceda said.
“The entire Albay is happy and proud of her achievement as proud she is of her roots. I worked with Catriona in her previous quests and she was excited about her role as tourism champion for Albay,” Salceda added.
Surigao del Norte Rep. Ace Barbers, 1-PACMAN Rep. Mikee Romero and Cavite Rep. Strike Revilla also sent their congratulations to Gray.
According to Barbers, Gray’s victory is an inspiration to all Filipinos
amidst today’s challenging times.
“Catriona Gray’s success is truly a victory for all Filipinos,” Barbers, Chairman of the Committee on Dangerous Drugs, said.
During the pageant, Gray was asked to comment on the legalization of marijuana. Pending in the House of Representatives is Cannabis (Marijuana) Bill, which seeks to allow the use of the drugs for medicinal purposes.
“Her sacrifices and triumph inspire Filipinos to continue fighting on amidst the challenges and difficulties. Her victory is our victory. This is such an amazing Christmas gift to the country,” Barbers added.
For his part, Romero said he is joining the entire Filipino nation in commending Gray for giving the Philippines its fourth Miss Universe crown.
“She represents the qualities of modern Filipino women—hardworking, beautiful and intelligent. This is a big win for the country and for our Filipino women indeed,” Romero said.
Revilla said that Gray is a good example of how great the Filipino women are.
