IN less than 20 minutes the proposed budget for the Office of the Vice President (OVP) for 2020 was approved in the House Committee on Appropriations.
As part of tradition, the committee swiftly granted without question the proposed budget of OVP amounting to P673 million.
The 2020 budget is higher than the 2019 budget of P671.5 million.
Vice President Leni Robredo failed to attend the deliberation because her flight to Manila was canceled due to bad weather.
Her representative, Undersecretary Philip Dy, explained that the initial proposal of the OVP was P684.2 million. However, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) only approved P673 million.
According to Dy, the Vice President’s anti-poverty program Angat Buhay has partnered with 321 organizations to mobilize P343 million worth of resources to help 400,000 families and individuals since 2016.
It was Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman who moved for the immediate approval of the OVP budget as a gesture of the courtesy for the second highest official of the land.
Lawmakers agreed to just ask questions about the OVP budget once it reaches the plenary next month.
