THE Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group headed by Chief Superintendent Roberto B. Fajardo last Tuesday was adjudged as the 2018 Road Safety Awardee for Southeast Asia during the 2nd Conference on ASEAN Road Safety in Subang, Malaysia.
The unit was cited for its initiative to ensure evidence-based intervention to reduce road crash deaths and injuries through a system called Data on Road Incident Visualization Evaluation Reporting System or “DRIVERS.”
The system has been proven to be an effective means in reducing deadly road accidents in the country mainly attributed to driver’s error, poor road condition, mechanical trouble, reckless driving and driving under the influence.
The award was given to Fajardo by Minister Anthony Loke, the Malaysian Minister of Transport, during ceremonies attended by around 300 guests which included leading international and regional road safety professionals and stakeholders from Southeast Asia.
The award fully recognizes the Philippine government’s effort through the Department of Interior and Local Government and PNP’s Commitment to the Philippine Road Safety Action Plan (PRSAP) 2017-2022, said Supt. Oliver Tanseco who accompanied Fajardo to the Malaysian event.
