ANOTHER Filipino has brought pride to the Philippines for winning the top award at the Paralym Art World Cup.
Filipino artist Vico Cham’s entry “Kadal Tahaw” was selected as one of the top 5 finalists and won the Sponsor’s award by the Persol Holdings, Co., Ltd. at the Paralym Art World Cup 2019 at the Azabu Regional City Office, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said yesterday.
Cham is the first Filipino to win top awards at the Paralym Art World Cup.
With this year’s theme of “Dance”, Mr. Cham’s work, “Kadal Tahaw” depicted a bird dance performed by the T’boli tribe of South Cotabato to celebrate good harvest. The dance mimics the hopping and flying behavior of the Tahaw bird.
A total of 12 artworks from the Philippines were shortlisted out of 774 artworks from 40 countries around the world.
In the same event, the Philippine Embassy Award was presented to the painting entitled, “Harmony” which depicts a traditional Japanese dance under the cherry blossoms.
The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo co-sponsored the Paralym Art World Cup 2019.
The cup was established to empower differently-abled individuals around the world and provide a platform to showcase their artistic talent.
