ACTING on orders of President Duterte, police tracker teams have been fielded to re-arrest 19 convicted criminals who were prematurely freed through the Good Conduct Time Allowance or GCTA law, Philippine National Police chief General Oscar D. Albayalde said yesterday.
The 19 were among the 1,714 convicts released thru GCTA but did not surrender within the 15-day grace period given them by President Duterte last month, the official said.
In his directive, the Chief Executive ordered the PNP to resume its operations to capture the 19 whose names were included in the partial list provided by the Department of Justice and Bureau of Corrections.
The DOJ identified the 19 who failed to surrender as of 12:00 noon of September 30.
According to the guidelines set by the DOJ, manhunt operations will be limited to search and arrest operations only, said PNP spokesman Brigadier General Bernard M. Banac.
