ON the campaign trail Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio often gets teased about becoming the next president of the country in 2022.
However, the chairman and founder of Hugpong Ng Pagbabago invariably says she is not considering the idea -- at least for now.
In an interview, Duterte-Carpio said she first need to ask for divine guidance and wisdom if she deserves to be the next leader of the land.
“Lagi nila akong kinakantiyawan, mga kasama namin sa HNP at mga senatoriable. Masyado pang malayo ang 2022, marami pang mangyayari bukas, sa susunod na araw sa susunod na taon,” Duterte-Carpio said.
“It’s not yet time to think about it,” she replied when media asked if she is thinking about it.
When asked if she is at least open to the idea, she said, “Iyan ay dapat ipagdasal for guidance and wisdom, kung para as iyo magiging madali nanndiyan ang Diyos na magbubukas ng lahat ng opportunities.”
For the meantime, the presidential daughter said she will concentrate rather on campaigning the candidates of HNP.
The regional party is supporting and endorsing candidates, namely, former MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino; former police chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa; former Special Assistant to the President Bong Go; reelectionists Sonny Angara; Cynthia Villar; JV Ejercito and Koko Pimentel; Ilocos Gov. Imee Marcos; former Sens. Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla Jr.; Taguig City Rep. Cayetano and Maguindanao Rep. Dong Mangudadatu and formerjournalist Jiggy Manicad.
But in one of her speeches, Duterte-Carpio once said she will support Angara once the senator decides to run for president.
“Si Sen. Sonny Angara ang talagang bagay maging Presidente, iboboto ko siya kapag tumakbo siya,” she said.
Mayor Sara is accompanying the candidates in their sortie. The group is set to campaign in Ilocos Norte and Isabela next week.
