DEPUTY Speaker and Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte slammed Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat over her “management style” and “character.”
During the budget deliberation Wednesday night, the House of Representatives temporarily suspended debates on the budget of the housing department to allow Duterte to raise the issue about Romulo-Puyat.
According to the presidential son, he had planned to interpellate the sponsor of budget of the Department of Tourism to seek clarification on certain issues and concerns on what is happening now in that department under the leadership of Romulo Puyat.
“I had planned to asked questions because it has come to my attention that there have been several complaints in the management style of Secretary Romulo Puyat in relations to the approval of contracts and projects in her department,” the neophyte solon said.
However, he said, Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano told him that it would be more prudent if the issues are threshed out directly with Sec. Romulo Puyat.
“Hence, following the established procedures, I sat down with the Speaker and Sec. Romulo Puyat to discuss my concerns regarding her department. I wanted to clarify these issues because it’s my right and sworn duty as a member of this esteemed chamber to ask questions and thus, interpellate any of my fellow legislator on the floor,” Duterte said.
The First child of President said the he would be remiss in his duty as representative of the people of Davao City’s first district, if he turn a deaf ear to the complaints and grievances that reached his office regarding the Department of Tourism.
“After I had discussed my complaints with Secretary…. taas sa buni? Puyat—napupuyat ako sa babae na ‘to—in the presence of our Speaker, I thought that was the last of it,” the disgusted Duterte said.
“Bilang paggalang sa ating Speaker, pumayag akong kausapin si Sec. Puyat. Ang buong akala ko, ay maganda ang ikakabunga ng aming pag-uusap. Yun pala, ay mauuwi lang sa sumbungan at mga maling paratang laban sa akin—at alam niyo na kung kanino,” he added.
Duterte said he wanted the public to know the real color and character of Romulo-Puyat.
