THE Department of Tourism (DoT) through the National Parks Development  Committee (NPDC) has lined up activities to welcome the “Year of the Earth Pig.”

NPDC executive director Penelope Belmonte said that in coordination with the Chinese community led by the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc., a “Chinese New Year Countdown” will be held on February 4 at the Quirino Grandstand  in Rizal Park, Manila.

A program will be held from 8 a.m. onward while the countdown itself will be at 11:40 p.m. The Chinese Garden, she said, has also been spruced up in view of the celebration.

Meanwhile, she said motorists should expect heavy traffic in the area where the celebration will be held and take alternative routes.

The Parade Ground (Independence Road) will be closed to traffic from 6 a.m. of February 4 up to 2 a.m. of February 5, she said.
