HOUSE Majority Leader and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez assured all members of the House of Representatives that he will be working with them diligently and fairly despite their different affiliations.
In a statement, Romualdez said he will continue working with both majority and minority groups, as well as the independent blocs.
“I am the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives. It is my duty to work as a leader not only of the majority coalition, but also of the minority and independent House members,” Romualdez said.
According to Romualdez, his closeness to Anakalusugan Rep. Mike Defensor will never change as he is also an ally of the Lakas-CMD, which Romualdez heads as party’ chairman.
Defensor and five other solons have joined former Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano in forming a new independent bloc called BTS or Back To Service.
They criticized the House of Representatives, under Speaker Lord Allan Velasco, for being a “House of Politics” saying it has defeated its purpose of serving the people due to too much politics.
“Cong. Mike Defensor is a friend, a dear friend. It is also true that he is affiliated with our party, the Lakas-CMD, along with other party-list congressmen and congresswomen who we consider as allies in the House of Representatives,” Romualdez said.
“I respect Mike’s diligence, views and opinions, political and otherwise. More than a friend to Mike, I am the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives. It is my duty to work as a leader,” Romualdez said.
The House leader vowed to fulfill his duty to the best of his ability so they can all serve the people.Publication Source : People's Journal
