HOUSE Majority Leader and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez yesterday underscored the need to increase the budget of the Office of the President to further President Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte’s efficient and meaningful public service to the nation.

This was stressed by Romualdez, who chairs the House Committee on Rules, after the House Committee on Appropriations chaired by Davao City Rep. Isidro Ungab approved in under seven minutes the P8.2 billion OP budget under the 2020 P4.1 trillion national budget as an act of traditional courtesy to the Executive branch of government being a co-equal branch of the Legislative branch.

“The necessary financial support for the Office of the President is needed to secure the nation and provide better and meaningful service to the people,” said Romualdez after the 2020 OP’s budget increased by 21 percent than its 2019 budget of P6.8 billion.

Romualdez explained that “President Duterte’s main goal is to ensure that the hard-earned money of the people would be used for their social services, education and infrastructure.”

“The President will always guarantee the national budget’s efficient, transparent, valid and legal disbursements of public funds. He will always address any form of corruption in the disbursement of public funds,” said Romualdez.

In acting swiftly on the OP budget, Ungab explained the same traditional courtesy was accorded to the 2020 national budget of the Office of the Vice President (OVP), judiciary, constitutional commissions and departments headed by former members of Congress like the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DITC) being led by Sec. Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan.
