UNLIKE his father’s stand, presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is fully supporting the renewal of franchise of the ABS-CBN Corp.

In an interview in Sulu, Mayor Duterte said she has no objection to granting another 25-year franchise to the television network.

“Davao City fully supports ABS-CBN sa kanilang pagpapa-renew ng kanilang franchise. Of course malaki din ang suporta ng ABS-CBN sa Davao City at sa buong bansa, she said.

No less than President Rodrigo Duterte is strongly opposing the renewal of franchise of the television giant after his political ads in 2016 presidential elections were not aired because the company was supporting other candidate.

But earlier, President Duterte already accepted the apology of ABS-CBN officials made during the Senate hearing and instead is leaving its fate to the House of Representatives.

Mayor Duterte expressed hope that all issues and concerns regarding the renewal of franchise will be addressed in the soonest possible time.

“Hopefully ma-resolve in a very positive way ang issue ng franchise ng ABS-CBN,” she added.

Meanwhile, the presidential daughter said she believes the President will change his heart and will think of the ABS-CBN workers.

“Of course, alam niyo si President Duterte, maawain ‘yan na tao. Iniisip din niya ‘yung trabaho ng maraming employees ng ABS-CBN,” the Davao City Mayor said.

Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano said the House may begin in August the deliberation on the 11 pending measures on the ABS-CBN franchise.

However, he and chairman of the legislative franchises Palawan Rep. Franz Alvarez already wrote to National Telecommunications Center (NTC) to give ABS-CBN provisional authority to operate until May 2020.
