IT is up to President Rodrigo Duterte if he will allow son Paolo Duterte to be the next Speaker of the House said Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on the  rumored willingness of Paolo to head the 18th Congress.

Paolo or Pulong was elected as Davao City First District Representative. He was unopposed.

“The question on the interest of Congressman-elect Paolo Duterte to vie for Speaker of the House of Representatives should best be addressed by our father because he is the President and our patriarch,” Mayor Sara said in a statement.

Mayor Sara, together with political kingpins of Davao del Norte, formed regional party called Hugpong ng Pagbabago.

Meanwhile, Mayor Sara said she is not the right person to endorse someone to be the next Speaker.

“ I only have a personal bet but I do not intend to influence Congress. It is best if the newly elected members of the House of Representatives individually decide who  (to choose) among those who are interested to become the next Speaker,” Mayor Sara said.

She urged the members of House to choose someone who can truly bring good governance and positive change to Congress, to the Filipino people, and to our country.

Mayor Sara also said she is supporting the one who will push for legislative reform agenda of President Duterte.

As for incoming Taguig City Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano, Mayor Sara disclosed that the former foreign affairs secretary cautioned her against supporting Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco.

“Cong-elect Alan Peter Cayetano was correct when he said that he did not seek for my endorsement when he came to Davao to talk to me sometime last year. He, however, came with a veiled threat, that if I endorse Rep. Velasco for Speaker, I would break up the ‘group.’ And this, he said, will affect the presidential elections of 2022,” she said.
