THE Hugpong ng Pagbabago and Partido Demokratikong Pilipino (PDP-Laban) will field a common slate of at least seven senatorial candidates in the coming mid-term elections.
A source, who requested not to be named, said the two groups decided to support seven candidates that are in their respective teams and might open the remaining slots to guest candidates.
The seven are Senator Koko Pimentel; Special Assistant to the President Bong Go; Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque; former police chief now Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa; Maguindanao Rep. Zajid Mangudadatu; Presidential Adviser Francis Tolentino and media practitioner Jiggy Manicad.
“This agreement was decided upon during Presidential visit to Israel. They have common candidates, at least seven. So they decided they will be the first seven, of the administration slate,”
The source added that this issue was discussed by HNP founder Mayor Sara Duterte and PDP-Laban chairman Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi.
Meanwhile, the source said that the five remaining slots may be reserved for re-electionists like Senator JV Ejercito, Senator Sonny Angara and Senator Cynthia Villar.
Another slot will be given to Taguig Rep. Pia Cayetano, who plans to return to the Senate. The last slot is open to anyone who wants to form alliance with the Hugpong ng Pagbabago and PDP-Laban.
Pimentel, president of the PDP-Laban, has submitted at least 24 names to President Rodrigo Duterte as possible senatorial candidates of the PDP-Laban.
As for Senator Grace Poe, the source said the administration opted not to invite her because she is believed set to run as an independent.
It’s the same issue with Senator Nancy Binay, the source added.
