A CHINESE fishing group has apologized over the Recto Bank collision incident in June where a Philippine fishing vessel was hit, sank and its crew were abandoned.
In a memorandum posted by the Department of Foreign Affairs yesterday, a Chinese association acknowledge that the accidental collision involving a Guangdong-registered vessel caused damage to a Philippine fishing boat.
It said “the shipowner of the Chinese fishing boat involved, through our Association would like to express sincere apology to the Filipino fiishermen.”
“We believe that although this accident was an unintentional mistake of the Chinese fishermen, the Chinese fishing boat should however take the major responsibility in the accident,” it added.
The Association, which said that the shipowner is their member, requested the Philippines to file an appeal for civil compensation “based on the actual loss” from the incident.
