Silent on term-sharing

THE Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) has no stand or comment yet on the announcement of President Rodrigo Duterte for term-sharing between Taguig City Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano and Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco.

In a text message, HNP founder and chairperson Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte  said the group still needs to meet to make a final comment.

“No Comment. The group I am with has not met. Many are in Manila, some abroad, some busy with work. We still have to meet,” Mayor Duterte said when asked about the party stand on the decision of the President.

President Duterte recently endorsed a term-sharing for Speaker between Cayetano and Velasco while he said Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez will be the Majority Leader.

Last week, the HNP issued a statement objecting to term-sharing.

When asked for her personal stand, Mayor Duterte said she’d rather not comment because she is not part of Congress.

“My personal stand, never ako nagexpress ng opinion about term sharing because i am not a congressman. HNP though as a pol party in the house has a position,” Mayor Duterte stressed.

According to Mayor Duterte, the HNP is not in favor of term-sharing because this could only disrupt the continuity of the leadership, programs and others.

“The HNP will not gun for term-sharing. It is counterproductive,” Mayor Duterte said in a text message.

According to Mayor Duterte, term-sharing will just slow down the last three years of the administration of President Duterte.

“In term-sharing situation, the House of Representatives will be racked by unseating the incumbent Speaker, deceit, dissent and distrust,” she added.

Cayetano said he and Velasco agreed on term-sharing with him seating in the first 15 months with the latter taking over for the rest of the term which is 21 months.
