AN opposition solon charged that China is already robbing the Filipinos of food.
According to Magdalo Rep.Gary Alejano with the rising number of Chinese fishing vessels in the West Philippine Sea, there is a possibility that they fish more compared to Filipino fishermen.
“Pagkain ng mga Pilipino ang ninanakaw ng China sa mismo pa nating teritoryo,” Alejano said.
The Washington-based think tank, Asian Maritime Transparency Initiative (AMTI), recently released satellite images showing the massive presence of Chinese fishing vessels in the West Philippine Sea.
AMTI Director Gregory Poling noted that the number of Chinese fishing vessels grew higher in 2018 than in 2017.
Alejano said that this is the effect of the pro-China policy of the Duterte administration which has been silent on Chinese incursions and harassment against Filipino fishermen and soldiers.
“We have seen how China has repeatedly defied our sovereignty and yet our government remains muted and lackadaisical in its defense of our rights over the West Philippine Sea. This has emboldened China to continue its illegal actions in the area which include poaching and robbing our maritime resources. Mesa ng pamilyang Pilipino ang nawawalan ng pagkain dahil sa pagiging bulag, pipi at bingi ng gobyerno sa pagnanakaw at pang-aabuso ng China,” Alejano lamented.
Alejano also said that the Chinese fishing vessels around the reclaimed islands of China and even those occupied by the Philippines are part of China’s strategy to gain control of the West Philippine Sea.
“They are not merely fishing vessels but paramilitary forces. They form a maritime militia which is part of the strategy to further establish China’s control in the region. These fishing vessels are supported by the Chinese government with advance technology. Ito ang kagitgitan ng ating mga ordinaryong mangingisda na nais lang namang maghanapbuhay,” Alejano stressed.
